Giving Thanks

Image
Thanksgiving is this week, a time when people get together and eat way too much food with family that they may or may not enjoy hanging out with for prolonged periods of time. It's a day chock full of football and it's the official kick off to the holiday season. Gas stations will jack up the price of gas and a lot of people will be in the air. Credit (minus rainbows and lollies). If you grew up in the U.S., you learned all about the Plymouth and how badly the pilgrims were in over their head. You learned that the local Indians* helped them that first year. Supposedly they had this nice happy feast after harvest, blah blah blah. There were rainbows in the sky and everyone was full of free love and had lollipops. Actually, that last part might be more awesome if historically accurate. Besides these things, what is Thanksgiving really? The nice folks at dictionary.com define thanksgiving as "the act of giving thanks, especially to god." This totally explai...

Versatile Me

Image
A couple of weeks ago, Erinn gave out blogger awards and I was one of the recipients. It's sort of exciting, since the last award I'd received was a senior in high school. With this the case, I'm overlooking the chain mail aspects of the award, changing most of the rules* and accepting it anyway. So thanks Erinn for saying I'm versatile, especially during a time when I'm feeling anything but. My picks for versatile peeps are... Cathy at Run for Grub . She's a fellow Grubbie and running her first marathon to fund Grub Street scholarships. How cool is that? Bethany at Bethany's Freelance Life . She's my Twitter friend and a lot of her posts recently get me in the soft spot. Heather at Edited to Within an Inch of My Life . She's a mom. She's editing. She recently announced she'll be homeschooling.  Miranda at Angelic Horrors . She's my co-host here. She's extremely interesting and used to be able to tell you what page the first ...

Literary Tats

Every Wednesday, YA Highway asks their readership a simple question for you to answer on your blog. Once you answer, you leave your link in the comments for other readers to hop on board. This is Road Trip Wednesday. My current tattoo wards off sneak attacks Today's question: What tattoo would you get to pay homage to a favorite book or celebrate the success of your own?   I'll get it out there right now: I have a tramp stamp. I got it before the term "tramp stamp" became popular.  It's a Wedjat eye done in black and I got it on vacation in England about ten years ago, which is a different, wine-buzzed story. Lately I've been thinking about another one. By lately, I mean six years. (You do need time to consider these permanent things.) It took me ten years to figure out my first tattoo, so it'll probably take just as long for Tat the Second. Just in time, maybe, for my book to be picked up. In honor of that, I'll get a second tattoo a...

Cat Lunch

Today's blogging schedule yet again has been interrupted by life. As a token of my regret, enjoy a video of a tiger loving it's lunch complete with Hubby editorial comments. The video was taken when Hubby and I went on vacation in October. We visited the Land of Where? and their only zoo - the Brandywine . Facts About the Brandywine Zoo -  It's park of Brandywine Park, which was designed by the same guy who did Central Park. -  Next to the National Zoo, it's probably the cheapest one on the East Coast. -  It's the only zoo I've been too that has binturons . -  They have lazy otters. -  They exercise their Flemish Giant (the rabbit mentioned in the video) behind the owl display.
