Best Book of January

Holy hell, Lurkdom! How did it become February ??? I don't know either, but time needs to learn to slow down. I have things to do, you know? Of course, I'd probably get them done faster if I didn't read freaking 13 books. Out of all these books, only one stood out as five star material. EVERNIGHT by Claudia Gray. Blurb from Goodreads:   " Bianca wants to escape. At the eerily Gothic Evernight Academy, the other students are sleek, smart, and almost predatory. Bianca knows she doesn't fit in. When she meets handsome, brooding Lucas he warns her to be careful--even when it comes to caring about him. But the connection between them can't be denied. Bianca will risk anything to be with Lucas, but dark secrets are fated to tear them apart...and to make Bianca question everything she's ever believed. " I know, it doesn't say much. But! It was definitely worth it. What I Liked About It: The twist. It seriously shocked me out of readin...

October Reviews: Silence & Will Grayson, Will Grayson

Every Wednesday, YA Highway asks their readership a simple question to answer on your blog. Once you answer, you link your blog in the comments for other readers to hop on board. This is Road Trip Wednesday.  Today's topic : What was the best book you in October? Funny thing about today's topic: what I considered the best book I read this month was not the one I rated the highest. Allow me to explain... Silence by Becca Fitzpatrick got the highest rating and there's a two-fold reasoning for this. One, I love paranormal and urban fantasy, so they generally rate higher* than other things. Two, it was leaps and bounds better than Crescendo, which had a shitty cover and a cop out cliffhanger that made me throw the book. So while the highest rated, not the best of the month. That honor goes to Will Grayson, Will Grayson.  Blurb from Goodreads : One cold night, in a most unlikely corner of Chicago, two teens—both named Will Grayson—are about to cross paths. As ...

This is Road Trip Wednesday.  Today's topic :  What are your all-time favorite book covers? I've talked about covers once before , but some topics just need repeating. The covers below I think would look fantastic poster-sized. Hush, Hush , Halo , Pawn of Prophecy , Insurgent , White Cat , Sunrunner's Fire , A Wrinkle in Time , City of Bones Out of these eight, my most favorite is the Wrinkle in Time cover. I love it so much that I have a poster of it. Cliff Nielsen's use of colors combined with the depiction of Mrs. Whatsit is breathtaking. What book cover would you blow up to poster size? _______ Last.fm hit of the day : M-16 by Descendents

Friday Fives: Cover Envy

I say this with all genuinosity, Lurkdom: THANK GOD IT'S FRIDAY. It's been a high-class craptastic week for yours truly and this weekend couldn't come fast enough*. That my weekend starts in about three hours emphasizes the hooray factor. I'm pretty sure I've mentioned my process for buying music is to go by the title. With books, 98% of the time my buying process is driven by the cover. If it's pretty, I'll pick it up. Other factors come into play then, but that's not what today is about. For someone who picks books based on cover art, there aren't many that I would sell my soul for. If Michael Whelan's art graces the cover, it's a safe bet that it'll catch my eye, so I've excluded him from my list and only focused on "recent" covers. All images are courtesy of Goodreads**. Cassandra Clare's City of Bones . Every time I saw the book in the store, I'd stop, stare, and pick it up. Why it took me three years t...
