The Post that Ties Squirrels into Publishing

Image
Every Wednesday, YA Highway asks their readership a simple question to answer on your blog. Once you answer, you link your blog in the comments for other readers to hop on board. This is Road Trip Wednesday. Today's question : Assuming we make it through the 2012 apocalypse, what do you imagine the publishing world will look like 100 years from now?  Holy hand grenades! The Lurkdom grew overnight*. So hello to all who are new to The Lurkdom. Today is all about the future and what I predict. Given that when I was 6, I envisioned that by the year 2025 we would be living it up like The Jetsons... yeah . So 2111, by the miracle of science, I'll still be 29** and the world will be run under a dictatorship of squirrels. Because of their lack of reading skills***, the publishing world is in a state of chaos. The only good thing is that all reading material gets beamed directly to the brain. Coincidentally out of this chaos, we will finally stage a coup again...

What Do Squirrels Talk About?

Image
If you're reading this post, that means the day job has kicked my butt again and I pulled out one of the last ditch posts. That I've written this with a raging PMS migraine isn't helping the thought process*. Credit Last month, Lauren sent me this as further proof of the squirrel apocalypse. Here you can see Abe whispering plot details to Charlie. What can they be talking about if not about overtaking the government?** The squirrels were quiet all winter. I'm not sure if this is because squirrels hibernate or if the weekly snowstorm just buried them all. Perhaps they were vactioning in Boca. Now that the rains erased any traces of snow in about 2 weeks, all wildlife is back in full force. This includes these little dumpster divers. The cats have never been so excited. If Abe and Charlie aren't canoodling or talking about a political coup, what else could they be discussing? By the way, we need 26 more followers before the Race to 150 closes. Don't y...

Squirrel Appreciation Day Redux

Image
Sometimes I think the world likes to mess with me. Like having these enormous hips and no about 2 inches of torso* or when I want milk, all cartons are frozen blocks of white. No matter, I can accept it. I really can't accept there's a day dedicated to squirrels. You can read my reasoning on it here . Today I'll play devil's advocate for the furry front. Reasons We Should Appreciate Squirrels Credit They sometimes eat insects and other rodents. The nuts they hide in the winter a lot of the time just become seedlings. They have incredibly fluffy tails. That's all I got. My squirrel paranoia is too strong. Now if this was Chicken Apprecation Day**... If you're an avid squirrel lover, read what the NWF says about how to celebrate Squirrel Appreciation Day. Then, you can go to What On Earth and buy some squirrel merchandise . * This might be a slight exaggeration on my part. ** May 4th. _______ Last.fm hit of the day : The Exile by Vernian Proces...

In Which We See in a Squirrel's Brain

Welcome to the shortest week of the month, which also happens to be the busiest for me since Hubby's birthday is right around the corner. You're blowing us off today, aren't you? Sort of. You suck. Wait! I have a video for you. It further proves that there is a squirrel revolution on the rise. Let me present Exhibit C on the case of squirrels as villians--Foamy the Squirrel.   ______ Last.fm hit of the day : Every Rose Has Its Thorn by Poison

Cat v Squirrel

Image
In the meantime, check out what's for dinner. If you're a cat, that is. Credit The Stripey and White Ones don't get excited about squirrels. Birds, yes. The random ant that shows up mid-summer, most definitely. They don't care about these furry potents of doom. I'll have to correct that. ______ Last.fm hit of the day : Sick One by Trashlight Vision

In Which I Concede Squirrel Cuteness

Being the devious monsters they are, squirrels are no doubt adaptable. They can creep into almost any situation and get away with it. Oh, really? Like what? Like pretending to be a cat of course. Hubby showed me this and I could forgive being stalked by the furry devils every day of my undergraduate career. Since it's just a baby, it has no clue about it's inherent evil. Some things are definitely learned. Squirrel paranoia aside, have you experienced anything where nature is overruled by nuture? _____ Last.fm hit of the day : Send Me An Angel by Deadstar Assembly

Squirrels = Evil

You do not fool me Squirrels bouncing like bunnies Evil is inside To continue my squirrel argument, I present a series on running squirrels. First, I want you to know that I really wanted to embed this video to prove my point , but MLB wouldn't let me. So have this cute video instead, but definitely watch the linked one. Seriously. Do it. I hope everyone has a great long weekend. Also, Ya Highway's having their final installment of giveaways . It's fun stuff like food and crafts, so go check it out. ________ Last.fm hit of the day : Electric Gypsy by LA Guns

Exhibit A

Image
In addition to squirrels taking over the world, they're evil. I can prove it. Note the red eyes. Yes, it's albino, but that doesn't change it's true nature. The menacing eyes glare at the photographer while it curls an arm around well, erm... something . The bushy tail isn't meant to be cute - it's a threat.

Squirrels as Art

Image
This creepy guy stared me in the face upon exiting the local Stop and Shop yesterday morning. I find this planter frightening for one reason. It's a squirrel. It looks unsuspecting, but I know better. Those glassy eyes most likely include hidden cameras. Squirrels will take over the world. Mark my words. _____ Last.fm hit of the day : The Impartial Orchestral Mix by The Clockwork Dolls

Squirrel Appreciation Day

Image
It was brought to my attention that tomorrow is Squirrel Appreciation Day . I have mixed feelings about this, as I sort of fear a squirrel uprising where they will overtake the world. Yes, this is irrational, but I've seen the Eastern Gray Squirrel in action and it's not pretty. Reasons Squirrels Will Overtake The World 1. They're small enough that they can sneak into places and nibble on important wires. 2. They have aggressive tendencies, especially when it comes to feeding, that would help push squirrel power to the fore. 3. I believe that Harvard is doing experiments on them. 4. They're nests are indestructible. 5. They work in packs. And just like a sea of rats, there is no doubt that these little critters will. fuck. you. up.
